  • General Information :
 Habit- Hirsute herb. Stem- Erect, stout. leaves – Radical leaves are larger, 15 cm long and 25 cm wide. Cauline leaves are 5 cm long and 2 cm wide, acuminate tip. The upper surface is hispid. Lower leaves are lanceolate, upper leaves are ovate-lanceolate, silky white beneath. Inflorescence- Capitate, Flowers – in dense silky heads 5 to 7.5 cm in diameter., Fruit- Nutlets, 4 mm and acute.

  • Benefits: Gojihva is an Ayurvedic plant used for the treatment of stomatitis, wound, jaundice, constipation, weakness of the cardiac muscles and rhinitis etc
It should be used in vibandha, kamala and udavarta being anulomana and mriduvirechana. In hriddrava, hriddaurbalya, upadansha and amavata being shamak, balya to hridaya and raktashodhana.
A phanta made of yashtimadhu and banafshaha should be administered in pratishyaya, kasay shvasa and shlaishmik sannipat a (pneumonia). In unmade and manodaurbalya being mastishkabalya. In mootrakrichchhara and pooyameha being snehana to mootramarga: in jvaraja, trishna and daha and in samanyadaurbalya being madhuravipaki and balya.

Kwatha ( Decoction ) of a fresh plant of Gojihwa (Onosma bracteatum ) is used to wash eczema.
Atisara ( Diarrhoea)
Kwatha ( Decoction ) of the root and leaves of Gojihwa ( Onosma Bracteatum ) is taken with jiraka (Cuminum cyminum) and buttermilk in case of Atisara (Diarrhoea).
  • Research Corner :
Wound healing activity of ethanolic extract of aerial parts of Onsoma bracteatum was evaluated on excision and incision model in albino rats in the form of ointment with two concentrations ( 5% and 10 % w/w). both concentrations of the ethanolic tested when compared with the control group. Nitrofurazone ointment (0.2% W/w) was used as a standard.
